What are the Hardest Languages to learn?

There has always been a lot of discussion as to the difficulty level of languages and which languages are the most difficult and which are the easiest to learn. Everyone has their own opinions on this topic and below is the order i think the difficulty for Native English speakers.

Extremely Hard:

• In my opinion one of the hardest languages to learn is: Polish. As it has Seven Cases, Seven Genders and very difficult pronunciation. Interestingly i have found out that the average native English speaker is fluent at about the age 12 but the average Pole isn't fluent in Polish until approximately the age of 16.

Very Hard:

•  Finnish, Hungarian, and Estonian: These languages are hard because of the countless noun cases. However, the cases are more like English prepositions added to the end of the root. The Pronounciation of these languages is not particularly easy however the hardest part is simply the grammar however once you have grasped the grammar and understand it as well as you can you shouldn't have any problem speaking the language.

Pretty Hard:

Ukrainian and Russian: These both have complex grammar and a different alphabet but the different alphabet (cyrillic) makes the pronunciation easier because you pronounce the letter the same as it's written so all you have to do is learn the alphabet thoroughly.

•  Serbian: It is similar to other slavic languages, it has a complex case and the genders a quite hard to learn thoroughly

Fairly Hard:

•  Chinese and Japanese-No cases, no genders, no tenses, no verb changes, short words, very easy grammar, however, writing is hard. But to speak it is very easy. Also intonations make it harder but certainly not harder than Polish pronunciation. I know a Chinese language teacher that says people pick up Chinese very easy, but he speaks several languages and could not learn Polish. I am learning some Chinese, it is not the hardest language maybe even the easiest language to learn. Not the hardest language by any measure. Try to learn some Chinese and Polish your self and you will see which is the hardest language.

Average:

•  French: there are lots of tenses but not used and moderate grammar.

• German: There are only four cases and five exceptions, most of the language is logical and the spelling and pronunciation is straight forward.

Easy:

•  Spanish and Italian as they are very similar and it is possible for native speaker of either language to have intelligible conversation.

If anyone has any other ideas about the difficulty of languages leave a comment or even write your own article with your list as obviously i havn't covered many languages.
